What is written in this little book, I have always counted among the best of what I know: for I have many times experienced the benefit of the rules provided herein for the investigation and evaluation of the sciences Wissenschafften; in the 18th century, this term referred to any systematic body of knowledge, including philosophy and logic, not just the natural sciences, even the mathematical ones, and I still experience it daily while I am occupied with them. I can also say that I have devoted more time to no subject than to the primary matters that I have presented in this book and which are the foundation of the rest; and finally, after many detours and much consideration, I have found and established what I propose herein. However, just as I, for my own part, have concerned myself with these important truths regarding the guidance of the intellect Leitung des Verstandes; the disciplined direction of the mind's reasoning faculties in the pursuit of the knowledge Erkäntnis; the certain grasp of truth through reason of the truth, solely for the purpose that I might be placed in a position to recognize the truth thoroughly and with certainty Gewisheit; the philosophical goal of reaching knowledge that is beyond doubt through logical proof and to others... original: "und anderen"; the sentence breaks off here at the end of the page.
