Apparition.

An apparition original: Φάντασμα (phantasma)—that is, a "vision" original: uisum—occurs between wakefulness and deep sleep, in what is called the first mist of sleep. The person, who has barely begun to sleep and still believes themselves to be awake, seems to see forms rushing toward them or wandering about, differing from nature either in size or appearance, or various shifts in circumstances, whether joyful or turbulent.

In this category is the ephialtes original: ἐφιάλτης, which popular belief thinks invades those resting, and who, feeling themselves pressed by its weight, are burdened. Oracle.

And indeed, an oracle original: oraculum is when, in dreams, a parent or another holy and grave person, or a priest, or even a God, openly announces what will happen or not happen, or what should be done or avoided.

Vision.

A vision original: uisio, however, is when someone sees something that will happen in exactly the same way it appeared. For example: a person seems to see a friend who is staying abroad (and whom they were not thinking about) having returned; they go out, meet the friend they saw, and embrace them. Or, while resting, one receives a deposit of money, and in the morning a petitioner meets them, entrusting money to their care and asking for it to be hidden in faithful custody.

That which is properly called a "dream" original: somnium is what covers its meaning with figures and veils it with obscurities, so that the significance of the thing shown cannot be understood without interpretation.
