7 Revealed to BharadvâjaOne of the legendary Seven Rishis or seers.. RigvedaThe "Veda of Verses," the oldest of the four Vedas. VI. 16. 16. Other: different,
that is, more excellent.
8 Revealed to Vatsa of the family of Kaṇva. The reading of the
Rigveda, VIII. 11. 7, is original: "kâmayâ" with desire in the place of original: "kâmaye" I desire: — ‘Fireoriginal: "Agni", with
song that yearns for thee.’
9 Bharadvâja is the Seeroriginal: "Rishi". Rigveda VI. 16. 13. Atharvan: the
sage who was the first to obtain fire, to institute sacrifice, and to offer
up prayer and libations of Soma. From the sky: original: "pushkarât": literally,
from the blue lotus, which is apparently a figurative expression for
heaven. The head of 'all who offer sacrifice': according to Professor
Ludwig, ‘the head of the priest Universaloriginal: "Viṣva",’ that is, the summit of Heaven,
Universaloriginal: "Viṣva" (All, universal) being apparently sometimes used as a name of
Skyoriginal: "Dyaus" or Heaven.
10 Vâmadeva is the Seeroriginal: "Rishi". This stanza is not found in the Rigveda.
