PRÉFACE.
The most persistent of the students who followed my lessons on Celtic law original: "droit celtique." The study of the legal systems and customs of ancient Celtic peoples, particularly in Gaul and early Ireland. was Mr. Paul Collinet, one of the winners of the most recent doctoral competition at the Paris Faculty of Law. I am happy that he was willing to join me in the revision and publication of the memoirs contained in this first volume, and especially in the second volume which is to follow it. I admired the filial piety of the disciple who put the finishing touches on the unfinished work of Fustel de Coulanges Numa Denis Fustel de Coulanges (1830–1889) was a highly influential French historian who emphasized the importance of primary sources and the religious origins of ancient social structures.. The deceased master could not enjoy this posthumous collaboration which brings so much honor to Mr. Camille Jullian A prominent historian and archaeologist who was a student of Fustel de Coulanges and eventually published his teacher's remaining manuscripts.. Without possessing the talent of Fustel de Coulanges, I am more fortunate than he.
