Sold 125 francs? in November original: "9bre", an abbreviation using the Latin root for the ninth month 1867 in quarto, vellum.? Quarto refers to the book's size, where the printer folds the paper twice. Vellum is a durable binding made from animal skin.
A circular bookplate, known as an ex-libris, belongs to Alfred Mauger. The border contains the capitalized Latin phrase "From the Books of" at the top and "Alfred Mauger" at the bottom. In the center are large initials "AM". Flanking these initials is the Greek word for knowledge original: "ΓΝΩΣΙΣ", or Gnosis. Above the initials is a small tau cross, which looks like the letter T. Below them is an Egyptian ankh, a symbol of life, placed next to another symbol. At the very bottom, outside the circle, is the mark for the engraver Stern in Paris.
