A faint, large decorative watermark is visible in the center of the paper. It features a lobed or shield-like outline with internal scrolling leaf patterns, a design typical of early modern papermaking. Such watermarks are used by historians to help identify the date and geographical origin of the paper stock used for the manuscript.
