A circular bookplate seal for the Boston Public Library is shown here. It is enclosed in a laurel wreath tied with a ribbon at the bottom. The seal features two classical male figures standing on either side of a central decorative frame containing an open book. Above them is a banner with the motto "The light of all citizens" original: "OMNIVM LVX CIVIVM". The border of the seal is inscribed "THE TRUSTEES OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARY" at the top and "OF THE CITY OF BOSTON 1852 1878" at the bottom.
Charlotte Harris was a nineteenth century benefactor of the Boston Public Library. This fund was established through her will to purchase rare books.
