Splendor of the Sun (Splendor Solis)

A detailed engraving framed by a wide, ornamental border. In the central rectangular panel, an elderly, bearded man wearing a cap and long robes, who is an alchemist or natural philosopher, stands in a rolling landscape. He holds a glass flask in his hand. A long, winding scroll spirals upwards from the mouth of the flask, containing text. The landscape background shows sparse trees and small buildings in the distance. The surrounding border is densely decorated with flora and fauna. It features various birds, including an owl, butterflies, a peacock with a spread tail, and two resting deer, a buck and a doe, among diverse flowers, leaves, and berries.
