This photograph shows the fore-edge fore-edge: the outer vertical edge of a book's pages, located opposite the spine of a closed historical book. The pages are tightly packed together and show a darkened, aged appearance from centuries of use. The edges of the binding's boards are visible, featuring a marbled pattern marbling: a decorative technique where paper is dipped in a bath of floating pigments to create stone-like swirls with hints of blue and red. A small, light-colored material tab or bookmark fragment extends from the top edge of the book block book block: the gathered and sewn pages of a book before or after they are attached to the covers.
