...is reported to have once been sold for three thousand original Latin: "millibus divendita olim fuisse feratur" [drachmas]. The Greek author Lucian also mentions this, and with praise, even though he was never particularly fair to any of the philosophers, being as he was a mocker of both gods and men original Latin: "irrisor deorum & hominum". In that context, he also makes mention of Epictetus's lamp; for this is what he says in the Dialogue Against the Uneducated [Book-Collector] original Greek: "πρὸς τὸν ἀπαίδευτον καὶ πολ..." (Pros ton apaideuton kai pol...). The full title is "Against the Ignorant Man Who Buys Many Books.":
