To make it easier for the student to understand how to create the Pentacles original: "Pentacles"; these are magical diagrams or symbols, usually circular and inscribed with names of divine power, used in ritual magic to command spirits or provide protection. shown above the illustrations in this book, we found it necessary to rearrange certain pages. If you turn to page 57, you will notice that pages 59 and 60 have been placed between pages 57 and 58, rather than between 58 and 61. As explained above, this was done to ensure the pages containing specific illustrations are near the printed text that explains them. When browsing the book, it may appear at first glance that certain pages are missing; however, upon closer inspection, you will find this is not the case. Although there are no printed page numbers for pages 59, 60, 65, 66, 69, 70, 73, 74, 77, 78, 99, and 100, no text has been omitted. These were illustrated pages showing the Pentacles, and instead of being placed in strict numerical order, they were moved forward or backward to be near the instructions for making them. This arrangement is used throughout the book.
Rather than any pages being missing, you will notice that many pages have actually been added. Several extra pages were inserted using fractional numbers: pages 61½ and 62½ are located between 63 and 64; 63½ is between 67 and 68; 66½ and 67½ are between 71 and 72; 68½ and 69½ are between 75 and 76; and 86½ and 87½ are between 97 and 98. These extra pages were added to make everything clear to the student and to avoid confusion. In studying this book, you will find that the text is complete; not a single word has been left out. All the printed pages have been placed exactly where they belong, while the illustrated pages containing the Pentacles, Seals Magical signatures or graphic symbols representing specific spirits or entities., and Talismans Objects inscribed with magic symbols intended to provide the wearer with protection or supernatural power. have been placed where they are most convenient for the student.
It should be kept in mind that this famous book is a translation of ancient manuscripts. The way this book has been translated and compiled is a rare literary achievement in the English language. The author has been very meticulous and careful to convey the true meaning of the original manuscripts to the student. This translation shows that the work was not thrown together haphazardly, as is often the case with other translators, but that a complete and logical order runs through the entire volume from beginning to end.
