...we have adhered scrupulously to the original edition, a complete copy of which was sent to us with the usual generosity by the Munich library (see p. 382, line 20). We have only omitted the marginal notes original: postille of no importance, which occur very frequently from page 336, line 18 onwards; it will suffice to give some examples here:
p. 336, 18 Arrangement of the preface. original: Dispositio praefationis || 20 The study of rhetoric is commended 1. By its discipline. original: Rhetoricae studium commendatur 1. A disciplina || 337, 3 2. By its propriety. original: 2. A decore || 7 3. Ab indignitate. original: 3. By its unworthiness. || 11 4. By the example of the president etc. etc. original: 4. Ab exemplo praesidis || 338, 23 Conclusion of the preface to Alexander etc. etc. original: Conclusio praefationis ad Alexandrum
Finally, it should be noted that the page numbering in the original editions of The Hunter’s Torch original title: Lampas venatoria and On the Composition of Images original title: De imaginum compositione is sometimes incorrect: in The Torch we have kept the incorrect numbers and added prime marks small marks like apostrophes, e.g., 12, 12' to indicate repetitions, while in On the Composition of Images we have corrected them without noting it every time.
