By Friar MARIN MERSENNE of the Order of Minims. The Minims are a Roman Catholic religious order of friars founded by St. Francis of Paola; Mersenne was a key figure in the 17th-century scientific revolution.

The printer's mark of Sebastien Cramoisy. The central circular emblem depicts a stork in a nest feeding its young, set against a landscape with mountains and a city in the distance. This circle is bordered by the motto: "HONOR THY FATHER AND THY MOTHER, THAT THY DAYS MAY BE LONG UPON THE LAND. Exodus 20." original Latin: "HONORA PATREM TVVM, ET MATREM TVAM, VT SIS LONGEVVS SVPER TERRAM. Ex. xx." The emblem is supported by two cherubs and flanked by four smaller circular vignettes showing biblical or classical scenes of filial piety. At the bottom, a small shield contains the initials "S. C." topped by a cross.

With the Privilege of the King, and the Approval of the Doctors. A "Privilege" was a legal monopoly granted by the King to a printer to protect the work from piracy for a set number of years.
