A revolving weather vane original: "flag" projects from the smaller dome, and this shows from which direction the wind blows. The vane is marked with thirty-six distinct figures, and the priests understand what kind of year the different winds portend and what changes of weather will occur on land and sea. Furthermore, beneath this vane, a book is always kept, written in letters of gold.
Grand Master: I pray you, worthy hero, explain to me their whole system of government; for I am anxious to hear it.
Captain: The supreme ruler among them is a priest whom they call by the name Hoh, though in our language we would call him Metaphysic The term "Metaphysic" here refers to a leader who understands the fundamental nature of reality and existence. He is the head over all things, both temporal and spiritual, and all business and lawsuits are settled by him as the supreme authority. Three princes of equal power—namely, Pon, Sin, and Mor—assist him. In our tongue, we would call these Power, Wisdom, and Love.
To Power belongs the care of all matters relating to war and peace. He directs the military arts and, second only to Metaphysic, is the ruler in every affair of a warlike nature. He governs the military magistrates and the soldiers, and manages the munitions, the fortifications, the besieging of places, the implements of war, the armories, and the blacksmiths and workmen connected with these tasks.
