Against Amatus Lusitanus, A Portuguese physician who had criticized Mattioli's earlier work including a Critique of his commentaries.
The printer's mark of Vincenzo Valgrisi. It depicts a serpent coiled around a wooden Tau cross (the Nehushtan). Two hands emerge from stylized clouds at the bottom to hold the base of the cross upright. Flanking the vertical beam of the cross are the mirrored letters "VIRT" (left) and "VIM" (right), part of the printer's motto "Virtue Conquers Force" original: "Vincit Vim Virtus".
