Although many authors, most dear Areius, not only from ancient times but also more recently, have composed treatises on the preparation, testing, and properties literally: "power" or "potency" of drugs, I shall attempt to demonstrate to you that it was not without reason, nor out of a vain impulse, that I have undertaken this work. This is because some authors have not fully completed their research, while others have recorded most of their information based on second-hand accounts original: "ex historias," meaning from hearsay or written records rather than direct observation. ?
