F. 2.
A detailed botanical copperplate engraving of the inflorescence (flowering part) of a coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). The illustration shows a large, woody spathe that has split open to reveal a branched spadix. The spadix is covered in numerous small flowers and developing young coconuts (drupes). Several large, ribbed leaves or bracts surround the central flowering structure. At the top left, there are small anatomical details of individual flowers and a seed. The engraving uses fine cross-hatching and line work to create texture and depth.
