Vitex alata Heyne
A detailed 17th-century botanical engraving from "Hortus Malabaricus" depicts a specimen of the plant Vitex alata. The main illustration features a large branch with compound leaves, primarily trifoliate, showing prominent venation on the elliptical leaflets. Small, dense panicles of flowers grow from the ends of the stems and leaf axils. Additional botanical details are provided: in the upper-left, a separate cluster of small, round, berry-like fruits. In the bottom-left corner, there are figures showing three individual fruits, two cross-sections of the fruit revealing the internal seed structure, a small sprig of flowers, and two magnified views of individual blossoms. In the upper-right corner, a text block identifies the plant in several languages and scripts.
