Therefore, there were 24 Abbots in total in Sponheim before Trithemius. Moreover, from the election of Bernhelm, the first Abbot, until the election of Trithemius, 359 years, 1 month, and 21 days passed. If we add to these the time of the Christian era when Bernhelm was elected—namely, May 8, 1124—the result is June 29, 1483, which coincides with the day of Trithemius’s election.
