...and it extends as far as the middle finger or its quadrangular mount, passing beyond the table line. The third is the line that descends from the head and begins with the line of life; for sometimes it is strongly joined with it, while at other times it is separated, passing for the most part through the middle of the hand. From this (as we have said before), the triangle of Mars is formed. And because the stomach communicates with the head and has a certain connection, a line of this sort also proceeds from the stomach and is called the capital or stomachal line. The fourth, proceeding from the power of the entire body, is called the table line; its beginning is between the percussion and the mount of Mercury or the little finger. This (as we have said) sometimes proceeds with three branches, sometimes with two, sometimes alone and bare, and sometimes in the form of a palm. But for the most part, it is closest to the index finger; sometimes it falls between the middle finger and the index, and sometimes it is joined with the line of the head and of life. Most frequently, however, a space is left between this and the line of the head, which is called the table of the hand or the quadrangle. But such a space is not always found, especially when this line and the line of the head are joined, to such an extent that both become one single line. Know, moreover, that this space is produced by the spleen. Therefore, when it is unencumbered by small mounds and is not confused by knots, it will signify joy, laughter, and the health of the spleen, but the opposite when it is tortuous. There are, indeed, certain other small lines, each of which is called the sister of such and such a line. When the line of life is long, continuous, and well-colored, it predicts a long life with few illnesses; when it is otherwise, the contrary must be entirely assumed.
