One must cut a wand from a branch of elderberry two feet in length, on the day and hour of Venus Friday, specifically during the planetary hour ruled by Venus, and having scraped it, you shall make a small opening in every interval between the nodes. And having placed a brass ferrule a metal cap or ring at each end, you shall keep it for when it is needed.
One must cut an elderberry wand of the same length as the first, which shall have very smooth bark. On the night of the new moon literally "the renewal of whichever Moon it may be", you shall take the said wand in your hand after midnight. Turning toward the East, you shall throw it into the air, and catching it before it falls to the ground, you shall say:

You shall repeat the same ceremony and the same words three times, and keep the wand to use as needed.
