The following text is written on a separate sheet of paper pasted onto the flyleaf; the right edge of this paper is torn and irregular, though the text remains legible.
This most singular work is the production of Masha'allah original: "Messahalah"; a prominent 8th-century Persian Jewish astrologer and astronomer who wrote in Arabic, an Arabian Astrologer. It was translated for the Dauphin The title given to the heir apparent to the French throne who was brought into England a Prisoner with his father John, King of France, by our Edward the Black Prince Referring to the Battle of Poitiers in 1356 during the Hundred Years' War. In all probability, the Dauphin brought the book with him, the translation having undoubtedly been made for him as appears by the red ink matter at the top of the opposite page. The Translator's name is on the last leaf. The date of the manuscript which appears on the Title to the second book is 1349.Amongst the abundantly curious matter of this manuscript is the assertion that the earth (as since proved by Sir Isaac Newton) is flattened at the poles—a most remarkable fact to have been stated at a period when every Astrologer affirmed that the poles were elongated.
The Arms Heraldic coat of arms opposite are the Dauphin's to whom the Manuscript belonged.
He was afterwards King of France Charles V, known as "the Wise," who was a noted patron of learning and astrology.
