If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or just want to say hello — we’d love to hear from you.

I exorcise you, Creature of this Ink original: "Creature of this Ink"; a ritual formula addressing the physical material as a created spirit, by the names Anston, Cerreton, Stimulator, Adonay, and by the Name of He who created all by one word, and who can achieve all. I do this so that you shall assist me in my work, and so this work may be accomplished according to my desire, and brought to a successful end through the agreement of God—He who rules all things, and through all things, omnipresent and eternal. Amen.
Then the ink is to be blessed with this Blessing:
Lord God, Almighty, ruler over all and forever, You who cause the greatest wonders to take place in Your creations, deign to grant the grace of Your holy spirit through this ink. Bless it, and sanctify it, and impart to it a special power, so that whatever we may say or do or desire may be accomplished: through You, Most Holy Prince, ADONAY A Hebrew name for God, often used in grimoires to signify divine authority. Amen.
When the implements are ready, the operator must prepare himself. This is first done by this Preparatory Orison A formal prayer or plea to God:
Lord God, Adonay, who has formed man in Your image, I, the unworthy and sinful, beseech You to sanctify this water to benefit my body and soul; cause me to be cleansed.
As he says this, the operator is to wash his face and hands with the water that he is blessing.
NOTE: This water is to be used for washing the hands and feet. Know also—and know and know again—that it is necessary, and most necessary, to abstain for three days from sin: and above all from mortal sin, however great human frailty may be, and especially guard your chastity.
During these three days, study the book. During this time, pray five times during the day and four times each night, using the following form:
Astrachios, Asach, Ascala, Abedumabal, Silat, Anabotas, Jesubilin, Scingin, Geneon, Domol: O Lord my God, You who are seated higher than the Heavens, You who see even into the depths, I pray that You grant to me the things which I have in my mind and that I may be successful in them: through You, O Great God, the Eternal, who reigns forever and ever. Amen. [Shah Likely referring to Idries Shah, a 20th-century writer on magic and Sufism gives a note of a variation: "Astrocio, Asath, a sacra Bedrimubal, Felut, Anabotos, Serabilem, Sergen, Gemen, Domos..."]
All this having been done correctly, all that remains is to follow your invocations Formal calls or appeals to a higher power or spirit and draw your characters Astrological or magical symbols and sigils, and you shall proceed as follows.
