SUPPLEMENT TO CHAPTER V.

NOTE.—This is a modern illustration of the allotment of the Twelve Letters; it is not found in the ancient copies of the “Sepher Yetzirah.” original: "Sepher Yetzirah" — The Book of Formation, a foundational text of Jewish mysticism (Kabbalah).

1. God produced Hé The 5th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Speech, crowned it, combined it, and formed with it Aries in the Universe, Nisan March–April in the Year, and the right foot of Man.

2. He produced Vau The 6th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Mind original: "mind" — often interpreted as thought or meditation, crowned it, combined it, and formed with it Taurus in the Universe, Iyar April–May in the Year, and the right kidney of Man.

3. He produced Zain The 7th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Movement, crowned it, combined it, and formed it with Gemini in the Universe, Sivan May–June in the Year, and the left foot of Man.

4. He produced Cheth The 8th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Sight, crowned it, combined it, and formed it with Cancer in the Universe, Tammuz June–July in the Year, and the right hand of Man.

5. He produced Teth The 9th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Hearing, crowned it, combined it, and formed with it Leo in the Universe, Av July–August in the Year, and the left kidney in Man.

6. He produced Yod The 10th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Work original: "Work" — often referring to action or manual labor, crowned it, combined it, and formed with it Virgo in the Universe, Elul August–September in the Year, and the left hand of Man.

7. He produced Lamed The 12th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Sexual desire, crowned it, combined it, and formed with it Libra in the Universe, Tishrei September–October in the Year, and the private parts of Man. (Kalisch Isidor Kalisch, a 19th-century scholar and translator of the Sepher Yetzirah gives “gall.”)

8. He produced Nun The 14th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Smell, crowned it, combined it, and formed with it Scorpio in the Universe, Cheshvan October–November in the Year, and the intestines of Man.

9. He produced Samech The 15th letter of the Hebrew alphabet, made it predominant in Sleep, crowned it, combined it, and formed with it Sagittarius in the Universe, Kislev November–December in the Year, and the stomach of Man.
