These things wrote Ocellus the Lucanian, concerning the nature of the universe: learning some things through clear evidence from nature herself, and attaining others by conjecture through opinion joined with reason, [deriving] the probable from reflection.

Ocellus Lucanus wrote these doctrines concerning the nature of the universe: some of which he drew from the works of nature as if by the most certain signs, while others he attained through opinion, always eliciting through reason that which seemed more probable from those things which he had contemplated.
