The lateral expansion of the slider at the end, extending to the full width of the pipe, is necessary for two reasons: first, to allow for the attachment of the vertical pin of the trigger; and second, it serves to prevent the pawls locking latches from flipping upward.

When pushing the slider forward, the right hand grips the trigger, and the index finger presses the right pawl—and thereby both, as they are firmly connected to one another by a bolt—upward. The rifle and the ratchet marked G are shown at a scale of 1:10, while all other parts are shown at 1:5.
