A hand-colored engraving featuring a central coat of arms supported by two golden griffins. The shield depicts three red birds known as 'merlettes' or martlets, which are heraldic birds depicted without beaks or feet on a gold field, topped with a crown. Above the shield is a small portrait medallion of a figure in Roman attire, labeled "Our Lord Justinian, Father of the Fatherland, Augustus" original Latin: "D. N. IVSTINIANVS P. P. AVG." Justinian was a 6th-century Byzantine Emperor famous for codifying Roman law.. To the left stands a blindfolded female figure representing Justice, holding a sword and scales. To the right stands a female figure representing Fortitude or Government, holding a bundle of rods a "fasces," a symbol of magisterial power and jurisdiction and leaning on a ship's rudder. The scene is set against a background of trees.
The title "Mr." (Meester) indicates that Vander Heim held a Master of Laws degree, a prerequisite for the high-ranking legal and administrative offices he occupied.
