Outer Ring Inscription:
"Man, or the Microcosm microcosm: the idea that a human being is a 'little world' reflecting the entire universe., the wondrous vessel of all these subjects."
Inside this ring, an inner border reads: "A living image of anatomy."
Inner Medallions:
1. Top (Mystical): Titled "An image of the mystical anatomy of man." It displays a cross-like diagram within a diamond, labeled with the four directions ("North", "East", "South", "West") and the four archangels ("Raphael", "Gabriel", "Michael", "Uriel"). The center contains the "IHS" monogram IHS: a monogram representing the name of Jesus..
2. Right (Physical): Titled "A living image of common anatomy" original: "vulgaris"; here meaning ordinary, physical, or standard medical practice.. It depicts a realistic 17th-century anatomical theater. A group of men in period dress are gathered around a table performing a dissection on a corpse. Surgical instruments are displayed on the back wall. Text lists "Three things pertain to common anatomy: A. The subject to be divided. B. The divider. C. The instruments for dividing."
3. Bottom (Nutritional): Titled "A clear mirror of the anatomy of wheat or bread." It shows a large chemical distillation apparatus (an alembic) next to stalks of wheat and a loaf of bread, labeled with various letters (A-K). Text reads "The nourishment of Man."
4. Left (Spiritual): A smaller circle titled "The internal parts of man’s anatomy are threefold." It outlines three internal parts: "A. Spirit or Air", "B. Soul", and "C. Jesus IHS, the light of men or the center."
At the very bottom intersection of the inner circles is a final small medallion detailing requirements for "Necessary things for common anatomy": "There are three: The Subject (A, B); the dissected limbs or the elements (S, c, d, e, f, g); and the instruments (h, i, k)."
