The border of the oval is inscribed with the motto "FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT" original Latin: "BONAM MILITIAM MILITA"; a biblical reference to 1 Timothy 1:18.. The frame is embellished with architectural strapwork and figures. At the base of the knight's pedestal are the initials "E. K." (Erasmus Kempffer).
