A hierarchical diagram using large curly brackets to divide the subject matter of "Part Three" into distinct sections. A marginal note on the left introduces the division. The diagram branches into two primary categories (Bread and Man), with the latter further subdividing into "Ordinary" and "Mystical" anatomy.
This third portion is divided into two types of Anatomy, one of which deals with
That most ancient and most highly esteemed food or nourishment, namely BREAD original: PANEM, the interior of which is manifested by a fiery section term: sectione ignea; this refers to chemical or alchemical analysis using heat and distillation rather than a physical knife.—that is, all the elements hidden within it are revealed, separated from one another, and purified through rectification, while their hidden powers and properties are uncovered by the diligent observation of the craftsman, distinguished by their effects, and clearly demonstrated to the eyes. And the first part of this section concerns this.
That easily the first of the animal kingdom original: regni animalis, the nourished or nurtured being, namely MAN original: HOMINEM. And this is subdivided into two species of Anatomy. Namely:
The Ordinary original: Vulgarem, through which his external form is dissected in the common manner, and the parts and organs are distinguished from one another, each of them described on its own, and correctly applied to the use for which Nature intended it. The second part of this section concerns this.
The Mystical original: Mysticam, through which both his external and internal parts, divided into portions, are treated in a mystical manner, and are equally laid open by the edge of words Fludd contrasts the physical blade of ordinary anatomy with the "edge of words" or intellectual analysis used for the spiritual body., and described as if by a living section: And the third part of this section deals with this species.
