A brown, mottled leather book cover features a gold-tooled border and a central heraldic device. The border consists of multiple fine gilded lines with small floral or star-shaped ornaments at the four corners. In the center of the page is a large, gold-stamped coat of arms. The arms are topped by a royal crown and surrounded by decorative mantling and scrollwork. The shield is divided into four sections, or quarterly. It displays the arms of the Spanish kingdoms: the castle of Castile, the lion rampant of León, the vertical bars of Aragon, and the chains of Navarre. At the center is a small oval inescutcheon a small shield placed in the center of a larger one with three fleurs-de-lis. This identifies the owner or the work as associated with the House of Bourbon.
