A rectangular white bookplate is pasted onto the center of a plain paper page. In the upper-left corner of the bookplate is the printed letter A. The center of the label features a symbolic emblem. Inside a blue oval, a white pelican sits in a nest and pierces its own breast to feed three young. This motif, known as the pelican in its piety, is a traditional symbol of self-sacrifice and the alchemical process of nourishment. Above the pelican is a radiant gold sun with a face. Below the pelican sits a white cube emblazoned with a red saltire, or X-shaped cross, and four red roses. This cube represents the Rose Cross or Rosicrucian tradition. Surrounding the central oval is the circular text Hermetic Philosophy original: "PHILOSOPHIA HERMETICA" printed in a very faint, light-grey font.
