An armorial bookplate for the Lindsay Library, known as the Bibliotheca Lindesiana. At the top, a ribbon banner contains the motto "ENDURE FORT," which translates to Endure Bravely. Below the banner is a crest featuring a swan atop a helmet with elaborate leafy decorations. The central shield is divided into four quarters: the first and fourth quarters display a checkered pattern, while the second and third quarters each feature a rampant lion standing on its hind legs. The shield is topped with an earl's coronet and supported by two lions. At the base of the image, the text "Bibliotheca Lindesiana" is printed in a Gothic typeface.
