An alchemical emblem is centered on the page, framed by a winged Ouroboros, which is a serpent consuming its own tail. This symbol represents the cyclic nature of the universe and the idea of eternity. Inside the circle formed by the serpent is a large square. This square contains a triangle, which in turn holds a small circle at its center. Around the inner edge of the Ouroboros is a Latin inscription. Symbols for the four elements are placed at the four cardinal points between the Ouroboros and the square: an upright triangle representing Fire at the top, an inverted triangle representing Water at the bottom, an upright triangle with a horizontal bar for Air on the left, and an inverted triangle with a horizontal bar for Earth on the right. Inside the square, surrounding the triangle, are symbols for celestial and terrestrial principles. These include a radiant Sun at the top left and a crescent Moon at the top right. Below these are the symbol for Sulfur, a triangle atop a cross, at the bottom left, and the symbol for Mercury at the bottom right. At the top point of the central triangle is the symbol for Salt, a circle with a horizontal line. Together, these represent the "Three Primes" of alchemy. Inside the innermost circle is a block of Latin text, and another short phrase is written along the bottom edge of the square.
