The "Art of Memory" is a traditional system of mnemonics. It uses visual patterns and spatial layouts to help a student memorize complex information. Here, Jean-Baptiste Alliette, known as Etteilla, applies it to his tarot system.
The print on this page is very faint. This is likely due to age or a light original impression. Much of the text and the numbers are difficult to read with certainty.
A large and faint schematic diagram sits within a double-lined rectangular border. The diagram follows a specific organization. At the top, a horizontal row contains ten small squares numbered 1 to 10. Below this row, a central vertical axis holds various numbered grids. A horizontal block contains four squares numbered roughly 11 to 14. Further down the center are clusters of smaller squares in 2x2 and 3x2 arrangements. Two long vertical columns of numbered squares flank the central section. The left column contains numbers 27 through 40. The right column continues with numbers 41 through 54. In the bottom half, two symmetrical rectangles are each divided into a grid of ten squares. Each rectangle has a single square attached to its bottom center. Small decorative marks, possibly astronomical signs, are visible in the corners and around the frame.
