Preface

Germans, wishing to serve them therewith, we have endeavored as much as possible to please German eyes and ears, and have adopted such a measure that we either retained the technical terms technical terms: the original Kunst-Wörter refers to the specialized vocabulary used within a specific craft or science. with their Latin sound—where they have already been, so to speak, naturalized original: naturalisiret, referring to foreign words that have been adopted into common German usage. among us—or expressed them with an understandable German name, or even presented both forms together. Should this seem somewhat strange to anyone, let him not laugh at it, lest he otherwise laugh at himself for not having better pursued and practiced his mother tongue; or should another complain of obscurity here and there, he must assign the blame neither to the translator nor to the first author original: Uhr-heber. of the book, but rather to the profound and thorough presentation of the most intricate matters, or perhaps even to his own prejudices and his own head, for not having cleared its contents better.

For indeed, nothing is more difficult than to present, or even to understand, the physical and medical disciplines in the German language, because hitherto people have been so negligent in characterizing the words and giving them a certain meaning
