And why should our mother tongue and its ways of expression not deserve just as much a little reflection when reading a German book, as one otherwise grants time and patience to properly understand a Latin or French text? Should both the publisher—who spared no expense—and the translator—who spared no effort here—receive no other thanks, then let the reader at least be satisfied by our good will in performing this service for him, and remain well-disposed toward us with grace, favor, love, and friendship. At the very least, the German translation of this French book should be dear and valuable to all Germans for this reason: that in the second chapter of the third part, it presents both the most praiseworthy discovery of making phosphorus original: Phosphorum from urine (which originated right here in Dresden) as well as the restoration original: Restitution of the Bolo-
