original: "Qualis et ingenio, vel qualis ab arte, loquentur / Diique ipsi et lapides, si taceant homines." These verses emphasize that Schedius’s work is so fundamental that the very subjects he writes about—ancient gods and monuments—attest to his skill.
For this reason, I am also confident that this new edition of Schedius’s work—enriched with significant notes and additions by the esteemed Jark term: "Jarkius" | Referring to Johann Jark, the editor who updated Schedius's work for this 1727 edition.—will be welcomed and appreciated by scholars. Jark himself will strive to honor these students of literature with ever greater and more impressive examples of his diligence, seeking to leave a blessed mark of his reputation for the memory of future generations. And so, farewell, my reader—lover of the humanities and of antiquity—and look kindly upon the efforts and scholarly pursuits of this most excellent editor, just as you have also done for mine.
