Greed is a root of all evil; says Saint Paul in his first epistle written to Timothy, chapter 6, verse 10. As many examples of greedy and unjust people and their punishments demonstrate, and as are recounted in both ecclesiastical and secular histories; however, the world cares nothing for this. Greed nevertheless reigns through usury and exploitation original: "Schinderey," literally "skinning," referring to the cruel over-taxation or financial bleeding of the poor, cunning and deceit throughout the entire world. He who cannot now lie and cheat is considered no wise man by the world. The Devil incites people to greed to such an extent that clergy and laity, nobleman and peasant, householder original: "Haußmann," referring to a head of a household or a tenant farmer and merchant, young and old, small and great, are all ensnared by it; and through greed, people fall from one sin and injustice into another, and
