The printed image is very faint and worn. It is likely a ghost impression or from a heavily used plate. This makes the details and the text on the scroll difficult to decipher.
A full page engraving or etching depicts the Annunciation. An angel with large, feathered wings descends from the upper left and gestures toward a seated figure in the lower right. The seated figure, likely the Virgin Mary, appears to be praying or reading while looking toward the celestial messenger. A long, winding scroll floats between the two figures. The scene is set in an interior space with architectural details, including classical columns on the right and a tiled floor. A rectangular border encloses the entire composition.
original: "Ave gratia plena." This is the traditional angelic salutation from the Gospel of Luke.
