I present to you, as a New Year’s gift, an epistle original German: Sendschreiben; a formal open letter intended for a wide audience which was sent to me a few days ago by a good friend from Frankfurt original: Franckfurt; a major center for printing and the book trade in the Holy Roman Empire. Its content seemed worthy to me to be shared with the world: and I considered it irresponsible to begrudge the so-called Allied Hermetic Duumviri original Latin: Duumviris Hermeticis fœderatis; "Duumviri" refers to a committee or pair of two men holding joint office. "Hermetic" refers to the secret arts of alchemy and philosophy attributed to Hermes Trismegistus that which an experienced man wished to bestow upon them. If by this means a light is kindled for you in the natural sciences—as I fully expect—use it in such a way that you thereby seek the origin of eternal Light and may walk in the same.
