Life and Death exists. Death is Putrefaction original: Putrefaction; in alchemy, this is the stage of decay or fermentation necessary for a substance to be purified and reborn, the separation of the evil from the good, the pure from the impure; through which the new body and the Matter original: ℞; the symbol for Res (matter) or Recipe, referring here to the essential substance being worked upon are born again to life. For just as a stalk grows from a seed: so a new body emerges from the old body through decay, according to the property and kind of each.
Man, the lesser world original: minor Mundus; the microcosm, or the idea that the human being contains the entire universe in miniature, is the sum and extract of the greater world original: majoris Mundi; the macrocosm or the universe at large.
