The center features a blue oval with a "pelican in its piety" A medieval Christian and alchemical symbol of a white pelican wounding its own breast to feed its young with its blood, representing self-sacrifice. Below the nest is a heraldic shield with a red saltire cross and a red rose in each of the four quadrants These are classic Rosicrucian symbols, merging the cross and the rose..
