A circular emblem or bookplate. Around the edge of the central image, the text "Hermetic Philosophy" original: "PHILOSOPHIA HERMETICA" is printed in a circular arrangement. The central oval depicts a pelican in her piety, feeding her young with blood from her breast. This image serves as an alchemical and Rosicrucian symbol of sacrifice and rebirth. Below the nest is a square device featuring a golden cross with a red rose in each of its four sections.
