The manuscript is encased in a vellum binding Vellum is a durable material made from calfskin, commonly used for high-quality books and documents in earlier centuries.. The material is a natural cream color, though it exhibits significant darkening, staining, and wear—marks of its long history and frequent handling over the ages.
On the far left edge of the volume, the spine contains remnants of a title or shelf mark written in ink. These fragments are heavily faded and partially cut off, leaving only the following traces:
...us? ...le? ...ffet? original: Latin fragments. These appear to be the trailing ends of Latin words, though the full context is lost due to the wear on the spine.
