What the reasoning for my undertaking was original: instituti mei fuerit ratio when I published this introduction to the history of the philosophy of the Hebrews original: historiam philosophiae Ebraeorum can be obscure to no one from the preface which I then set before it. For my intention was to outline the philosophy of other nations just as I did for the Hebrews, and at the same time to demonstrate—through the dissertations placed under each part—the use of philosophical history within ecclesiastical history ecclesiastical history: the study of the origins, development, and history of the Christian Church. Indeed, no one would find fault with this plan of mine, unless they were plainly unrefined and ignorant of the matters being discussed here. But at that time, when I was turning these things over in my mind, I was still performing the duties of a teacher of philosophy at Halle in Saxony original: Halae Saxonum; a major center of the German Enlightenment. From there, however...
