the carnal Egypt, In the symbolic language of 17th-century divinity, "Egypt" represents the state of spiritual exile and the "old man" or carnal nature that must be left behind to reach the "Promised Land" of spiritual peace. and be led out of the house of bondage of sins, so that after those days their hearts might be inscribed with that eternal Covenant of grace, and be possessed or inhabited by Christ himself—as He is the fulfiller of the eternal, soul-saving law, indeed, that new Covenant or Testament itself.
For as long as a person remains in their first earthly and carnal wisdom and in that first Covenant, they remain in the fall, in darkness, and in death; therefore, the old Law is also called the Law of sin and of death original: "Wet der fonden ende des doodts.", but the new Law, or that new Covenant Verbont: a solemn binding agreement; here referring to the "Covenant of Grace" which replaces the "Covenant of Works." of grace established in Jesus Christ, is the Law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus.
