1. The Very First and Greatest Commandment is LOVE, since God himself is Love; now it is certain and true that God alone is the First and Greatest, in whom alone everything begins and ends; therefore this Commandment is truly the first and great Commandment: so it is for the most weighty reason that God’s Children, and all who wish to be Christians, must begin here first and foremost. For there is a right true Proverb here:
He who starts badly at first,
The end shall swallow him.
This proverb warns that a life or spiritual journey built on a poor foundation is destined for failure.
2. On this one Commandment of Love hang the Law and the Prophets; the whole Law and the Prophets are fulfilled in the One Word of Love: both demand nothing but the Love of God and of one's Neighbor: that is their entire service; when Man the
