5. ...fulfilled anything at all. To fulfill all the Commandments (if one were even able to know them) is nothing if you do not carry this out; and this Commandment alone sets clearly before one's eyes who are the Disciples of Jesus and who are not. This aforementioned Truth is here not only verified by the mouth of "two or three witnesses," but is confirmed by the mouth of Truth itself in three Evangelists, and testified from two places in the Law of Moses.
The author references the biblical legal principle that a matter is established by the testimony of two or three witnesses (Deuteronomy 19:15). Here, he argues that the Commandment of Love is uniquely well-supported by both the Old Testament (Law of Moses) and the New Testament (the Gospels).
6. But all these witnesses are despised and cast to the wind; shall not all so-called Christians then have to die without Mercy? For he who despises Jesus and His Law, does he not consider the precious Blood of the New Covenant—by which he is redeemed—to be unclean and powerless? Does he not reject the Love and Mercy of God? Must the Love of God not reject him in turn, or turn away from him and abandon him entirely?
"So-called Christians" (Dutch: Genaamde Chriſtenen) is a recurring critique in Reformation-era writing, distinguishing between those who are Christian in name only and those who live according to Christ's teachings.
