the Spirit of Mercury original: "Spiritus Mercurii"; in alchemy, this refers to a universal life force or animating principle, not just the liquid metal is directed and characterized from above down / upon the Animals original: "Animalia", so an Animal being comes from it / if, by its bestowal, it goes upon the Vegetables original: "Vegetabilia", then a Vegetable work comes from it / but if, because of its infused Nature, it falls to the Minerals, then Minerals and Metals original: "Metallen" come from it / yet each has its own distinction in how they are worked / the Animals for themselves / the Vegetables in another way and form for themselves / and the Minerals for themselves / each in a particular way / of which to write specifically original: "in specie" would be very extensive / and would require a large and diverse narrative.

Here now many a person might / as is not unreasonable / ask / how then such a Spirit of Mercury is to be obtained and attained / or how it is to be made / in what manner and way it is to be prepared / so that it can drive away diseases / and can change all Metallic kinds of low value referring to "base" metals like lead or tin / as if giving birth in a miniature world / through the transmutation original: "transmutatio"; the alchemical process of changing one substance into another, typically into gold or medicine and multiplication of their Seed / many will wait with longing for the answer to this / which I will not withhold from them / but will faithfully reveal / as much as has been allowed and granted to me through God's Command, Justice, and Judgment / in this manner and measure.

Take in the Name of the LORD / a red mercury ore / appearing just like cinnabar original: "Zinober"; a bright red mineral consisting of mercury sulfide, the primary ore from which elemental mercury is extracted /
